The Story of Princess Kaguya / Kaguyahime no Monogatari (Japan, 2013)
Maybe The Story of Princess Kayuga (Isao Takahata) isn't the most impressive, most beautiful or most emotional I ever saw the art style is truly amazing. Ofcourse there will be people who say 'My child could have drawn this!' but well, than you have a miracle child I guess. You will feel its beauty alongside with the amazing music and realize you are watching something really special. Once again you will be lost in Ghibli's world.

Brooklyn (2015) / Saoirse Ronan
Though it may not have
the most innovating story about an Irish girl in the 1950’s who immigrates to
the States, and gosh I hate this word, ‘Brooklyn’
does have the right vibe. A story about love, big decisions and being afraid of
their consequences and most of all growing up. Well we have seen all that
before but there is a difference ‘Saoirse Ronan’. To be honest I always had a
love/hate relationship with her. She seems to be so talented and the next
second you wonder if she does have any facial expression at all. So I guess I
would say she can be inconsistent in her acting and yes, that is what are the
really interesting actresses or actors to watch. In Brooklyn she definitely nails
it, she catches the vibe and make this film everything and more. Of course the
music, the other characters and
screenplay all matter but when it is a story we all have seen before you need
that little bit of extra magic. Saoirse Ronan.

Moonlight Sonata part 1 - Elephant (2003)
When you hear Beethoven's Moonlight sonata it will immediately find its way to your heart and mind. It is such a powerful piano sonata (no. 14) that it will start to live its own life and you will make your own memories that go along with its tune. In Gus van Sant's 'Elephant' it plays a vital role. To be honest the movie doesn't satisfy completely but it's tracking shots are more than amazing and you will remember Beethoven's legacy with one more and another memory.

In the Mood for Love.. yet again!
Already 16 years ago but still so amazingly beautiful and hypnotizing. This is really something that represents true beauty in film. It is just one of those rarely everlasting memories. In the Mood for Love.

Sicario (2015)
After
Villeneuve’s more than brilliant ‘Incendies’ every film he makes will be looked to with
great anticipation, which also makes it a lot easier to fail to meet these high
expectations. But to be honest with his new film ‘Sicario’ he does it again! ‘Sicario’
is about the fight against drug trafficking and well let’s say this isn’t the
first time a movie has been made about this subject. This also doesn’t make it
easier to keep this kind of high level that Villeneuve maintains. But with the
simply great soundtrack, brilliant acting (well don’t we expect that all of Benicio
del Toro but also Emily Blunt and Josh Brolin totally feel themselves
comfortable in their roles) and a total absence of something positive in it’s
story makes it an unforgettable experience. From the very start of the film you
are dipped in this world of violence and without compassion. You will be
gripped with such a depressive feeling it will find its way through all of your
veins and you can’t do anything else than get hypnotized and enjoy the ride.

Before Sunrise (1995)
And then suddenly you see the beauty of it all again in one film: Richard Linklater's 'Before Sunrise' is what my blog is about. It is true beauty of film which doesn't need much in fact. Walking and talking, that pretty sums up the entire movie. Simple? maybe but definitely a masterpiece! Everything in 'Before Sunrise' breaths romance and this is not only because of the fantastic location of Vienna. The magic of attraction between Julie Delphy and Ethan Hawke is beyond words, it is just impossible not to feel their love during this film. Great dialogues and astonishing magic between the two leads.
Also the thought of time which passes and soon will just be a memory makes it an unforgettable experience.
When you feel nothing, you are nothing........
The next scene just says it all

What is life?
So let me ask you an interesting question? What is life? Is it the kind of life were you get a girlfriend, get married and create a family? Or, is life to discover what is this world all about and breakaway from all ties by which you are bound?
People often say 'Life is short', and indeed it is but why do we still live the life people expect from us? Maybe it is just too difficult too cut your ties and explore, travel the world, look for beauty and discover yourself. Ofcourse it is a lot easier to work, be with your family and take care of your children than to start a soul searching journey. Maybe we are even scared to discover what everything is about in this life because when you really think of it: Why do we work 5 to 7 days a week till we die? What will and does it give us? The common answer will be that you do it for your children but even so.. do our children just need that? In my opinion to make fully advantage of our short life we should indeed just shout out: STOP. Only than you can really begin to live.
I think most people have this idea lingering in their minds, don't they?

Bhopal: A prayer for rain
Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain is an interesting film about a chemical factory disaster that happened in 1984. Not too much about the film this time, it is just quite good but about some strange propaganda issues according to this film.
When you look at the poster you will see the name of Martin Sheen and Mischa Barton. Though Martin sheen does have an interesting character, Mischa Barton just has a very small role. Is it really necessary to promote her this much just because she is a famous American (The OC)? In my opinion this film is really about Bhopal and it's Indian actors lik Rajpal Yadav and Manoj Joshi. To be honest, they make this movie and not their American counterparts.
If I would be one of those Indian actors I would be rather furious but ok, Mischa Barton is always a delight to look at.....

Tang Wei in 'The Golden Era'
Xiao Hong was one of most important writers of contemporary China. The life of this writer of the 30's of the past century has now been captured on film. No one less than Tang Wei will star in this film: 'The Golden Era'. After her magnificent performance in Ang Lee's 'Lust, Caution' the acting heart will always beat a little faster when she appears in a new film!
