A time to love / Qing Ren Jie (China, 2005)

A boy (Hou Jia) and a girl (Qu Ran) who love each other, but the love isn’t meant to be because their parents won’t agree with it. This story doesn’t sound very innovating and reminds us of the number one of love stories: Romeo & Juliet. In this film, there is also often referred to this classic Shakespeare story which works well, because Romeo and Juliet always keeps interesting.

When Hou Jia and Qu Ran are going to the cinema to see a film adaptation of Romeo and Juliet I was very relieved the director chose the film of 1968 (by director Franco Zeffirelli, in my eyes the best adaptation of this story. It really brought back memories, for the first time I saw it in my first year in high school and though most students thought it was boring I fell in love with this Romeo and Juliet film at first time.

A time to love is maybe not too innovating but it is really good. This film is all about love and its difficulties. How long will you wait for the one you love? A question that refers to your own heart, to the one you love mostly, and than you will know the answer. It is not really a long wait, cause the moment you see eachother again you won't remember the period you were apart from each other.

Sometimes the scenes really take your breath away, so beautiful they are. When Qu Ran undresses herself slowly, a tear in her eyes show the love and pain she feels. These little things make this movie a really wonderful experience. The acting is great, especially by Zhao Wei. Her appearance is of course beautiful, but also very pure.

A simple, but well directed story of love.

Tazza: the high rollers (The war of the flower) / Tajja (South Korea, 2006)

This is a film, based on a comic by Yeong-min Ha, about the underground gambling industry in Korea. A pretty good crime thriller which focuses on a guy who has lost his sisters’ money in gambling. To win the money back he has to learn some deceiving tricks. He gets better and better in it, but that also means he is living in a dangerous world. Mighty and dangerous opponents are in his way. Maybe it starts a bit slowly but keeps getting interesting for not less than 140 minutes. It is also a story about love, but that isn’t the most interesting part of this film. At least it should be said, there is much violence in this movie, so you better be prepared for it (though it is no gore)!
This is pure entertainment, when you are going to watch this movie to see good entertainment and a thriller about gambling it won't disappoint you.

Tempting hearts / Sam dung (China, 1999)

Tempting hearts is directed by Sylvia Chang and stars Takeshi Kaneshiro and Gigi Leung.

It's a nice and simple lovestory between Sheo-Rou (Gigi Leung) and Ho-Jun (Kaneshiro) for three decades. A story about a love that never can be, and how this love will chase you for the rest of your life.

When the parents of the girl forbid her to see her boyfriend the film came a bit too close to my own life, it really hurts when you yourself had a love which just isn't meant to be. Ot ro be said more tragic but so real: It's the love we've lost that haunts us.
I guess some people would say this movie is a bit boring (I have to say, some scenes could have been left out...they really slowed this movie down) but when you have been in love before yourself it's definitely worth watching. The ending is just very very good, you will remember it forever.

Tears for you / Nada so so (Japan, 2006)

When you visit my site I guess you will notice that most films I watch are not the most happy ones. So when you think this time the movie has to be funny or happy, I have to disappoint you again. But what I can offer, is a film about love as strong is at can be. And to be honest.... when loves seems to be too perfect.... how can it end happy anyway. Destiny has a cruel way of pushing the most beautiful moments out of his way!

The film 'Tears for you' (Nada so so) by director Nobuhiro Doi is a film which stars Satoshi Tsumabuki and Masami Nagasawa, is about two half-siblings who are lft by there dad in at a very young age. The boy takes care of his sister in any way he can. she is able to go to a good school so he works to earn money. His dream is to have his own restaurant in the future but it isn't going that smoothly, he is deceived by some con-artist and his sister wants to live on her own because she loves him too much. Then he gets ill....

This film is all about love, not the common boy-girl relationship but a more difficult relationship between two half-siblings. A situation that is hard anyway. It's very subtle, and that makes it very beautiful. Not that it is an innovating movie, because it's not... you always know in which way the story will evolve but it's not even necessary. The things the director wants to do, he does perfectly, fantastic scenes about the chemistry between siblings which is totally believable. The sister calling her brother niinii (big brother in Okinawa accent) can be a bit irritating in the end though.

Even though it's very subtle, it is a very emotional film too so make sure you bring some tissues with you.

And to remember, watch the beautiful song during the ending credits cause you will be given a brilliant scene afterwards.

nd for my special friend and soulmate who lives far away:), I hope you will like this one too. I wish you wellness and happiness, it's hard missing you.

Together

Together (He ni zai yi qi) by Chen Kaige is a Chinese movie about music and growing up.
In short the story deals about a boy who wants to be a famous violin musician (well in fact, his dad wants him to be a famous musician).
This journey will lead to Beijing where his dad wants to find a great teacher for his son. The first teacher teaches the boy Liu Xiaochun (playeb by Yun Tang) how to play the music from his heart, the only problem is that he can teach him how to play but now how to make him famous. Liu Xiaochun had to be transferred to another teacher and this will show us the difference between playing music for yourself or for fame.

These are interesting subjects but maybe the most intereting part of this movie lies in the fact that it is about growing up, how a father have to let his son go a bit and about a first unreachable love.

I think this movie is really great. Don't expect any action but when you like music (it's maybe even better when you play an instrument yourself) and are willing to watch a movie about growing up and in fact a story between father (who is imperfect but doing his best he can) son it is able to touch your heart.
Together with the beautiful music it's a beautiful film!
